Giđđageassi (spring summer in Sami)
May-June. Forest and heather turn green. This is the time for fishing for salmon in the sea with a kilenot or hook net. This is an old tradition that is particularly important for the Sea Sami and Scots Sami in the area. It is calving time for the reindeer. The birds retreat. Seagulls lay eggs and have traditionally been an important addition to the food supply. On June 1, salmon fishing opens in the Neiden River. The opening attracts a great deal of attention with many spectators, and everyone waits to see who will catch the first salmon.
